Water Hammer System

Water hammer phenomenon is the consequence of a pressure surge or high-pressure shockwave propagating in a piping system in which the fluid is forced to change its direction or stop suddenly. The shockwave is also usually known as a hydraulic shock or hydraulic surge. Due to the enormous shockwave, a marked banging or knocking sound

on the pipes is heard immediately after shutoff. Water Hammer systems are engineered systems and components which eliminate and prevent rupturing of the fluid panicles velocity.

Once water hammer takes place, it’s hard to predict or to control its destructive effect on the project components (pipeline, valves, pumphouse components) because of excessive rise in system pressure above the design limits of the system components.
